‘It Must Have Been Love’ by Roxette
Name any other band more Swedish than Roxette. Alright, ABBA maybe, but other than that…
Having a little trouble with the task? It’s okay. Because maybe there is no band more Swedish than Roxette (and ABBA.. yes of course). Roxette was founded back in 1986 and consisted of Per Gessle and Marie Fredriksson. They got their big break in Sweden already with their first album, but it took almost another 2 years before they made an international break-through. Since then they’ve sold approx. 75 million records world-wide.
‘It Must Have Been Love’ was first released as a Christmas song in 1987. Then in 1989 Roxette was asked to write a tune for the upcoming movie ‘Pretty Woman’, and since nobody thought of the film to be one of the all-time classics, Per Gessle decided to just submit ‘It Must Have Been Love’. With some alterations the song became the lead motive for the movie, and as they say – the rest is history.
After more than 30 years as a band Roxette was, sadly, forced to call it quits due to health reasons. But their memory will forever live on in our hearts.
