With Sweden’s own number you can call a random swede and talk about anything. Well, the number still exists, but it is closed. Let’s hope it opens up again someday.
In 1766, Sweden became the first country in the world to introduce a constitutional law to abolish censorship. To honour its anniversary, 250 years later, Sweden was the first country in the world to get its own phone number. The phone number was open for 79 days and you where able to call whenever you wanted, talking about anything.
A total of 197678 incoming calls from all over the world was made, mostly from USA but all together from 190 countries. Swedes where able to sign up to become one of these random swedes and surely had a lot of funny dialogues with interesting people.
Alicia Vikander decided to try this out, of course. She surprised some with actually telling them who she is after some weird questions and others she just confused with really odd questions.
As said above, let’s hope this number opens up again someday to celebrate another anniversary. Until then, check out this video to hear what a call to a random swede could sound like.
